Big Friendly Dog has grown considerably from the walking business we started with. Today we offer professional dog walking, training, licensed home boarding, private Adventure Playground hire and wedding chaperoning.
Some customers use us for one thing. Others start with a walk, move into training, board with us when they go away and end up using half the business.
That’s absolutely fine. The advantage of offering different services is that we can get to know your dog properly and support them as their needs change.
Dog Walking
Solo, group and training walks tailored by temperament, personality and manners.
Home Boarding
Licensed home-from-home stay (max 3 dogs). Sofas, gardens, walks, and trial nights.
Dog Training
Practical training for real life: recall, lead manners, obedience and puppy support.
Adventure Playground
Private, secure field in Thurnscoe with outdoor agility and two indoor enrichment rooms.
Wedding Chaperoning

More than getting them around the block
Every BFD walk starts with the dog in front of us. Their personality. Their energy. Their confidence. Their behaviour around other dogs. And what their owner actually needs.
We collect dogs directly from home and, with permission, can hold keys so you don’t need to be there. We’ve spent years walking locally and know a wide range of routes, from quieter spaces for dogs that need more room to busier environments for dogs that benefit from additional social exposure.
Group Walks
Carefully matched groups based on temperament, personality and how we believe the group will work together.
Solo Walks
Ideal for older, nervous or reactive dogs who need one-to-one attention.
Training Walks
Work on lead manners, recall, confidence and more while still enjoying a proper dog walk.
Their holiday while you're on yours
Our home boarding is designed to feel exactly like that: home. Dogs stay with us as part of normal family life rather than being separated into kennel-style accommodation.
They have access to our main living spaces and secure garden, with plenty of beds, sofas, and tailored exercise. We’re licensed by Barnsley Council for a maximum of three guest dogs at any time, allowing us to keep things personal and make sure every dog gets the attention and space they need.

A private, secure space to run, play and explore
Our private Adventure Playground is available for individual and small group hire. It’s a secure, enclosed space with a variety of natural and play equipment, perfect for dogs who love to run, explore and use their brains.
Your dog is part of the family
So if you want them at your wedding, they should be able to share the important moments without becoming another thing for you to worry about.
We can take care of everything from boarding and exercise to transport, handling at the venue and helping with photographs.
You enjoy the wedding. We’ll worry about what the dog is sniffing.
